Modesty Matters (New!)

If you've been in any department stores recently you know that finding modest clothing is challenging. Not only is it difficult to find modest pieces to wear, but often when you do manage to find the needle in a haystack, you can't afford it! In an effort to encourage one another in our pursuit of modesty while being good stewards of our money, we will be sharing our finds in this brand new fashion feature-Modesty Matters.

Secret Keeping - We have shared this article before, but we felt it was worth out time again. This fifteen (yes, fifteen) year old does an excellent job reminding us why modesty is so important. Be sure to check it out!

Virtue (video)  - You might be surprised to find out that most young men actually prefer girls who dress modestly. This particular group of guys got together and put a fun twist on sending that message out.

What I Wear - I recently stumbled across this blog and love the purpose behind it. This blogger posts pictures of her outfits along with where she found individual pieces. She describes her style as fashionably modest and I would agree. She does a great job inspiring others to piece their own modest outfits together on a budget.

These Aren't Pants! - While this link is actually a product review on a particular brand of leggings, this blogger does a great job of demonstrating how leggings are supposed to be worn. Leggings make a wonderful additional to your wardrobe, but they are not equal to pants. Please don't be one of those guilty of treating them as such.

Legalism v. The New Birth

A Child of Legalism Says…

-      I have to go to church.

-      I have to do good deeds.

-      I have to be pure in heart.

-      I have to repent.

-      I have to be meek.

-      I have to be generous, kind, merciful.

-      I have to get baptized.

-      I have to produce love, joy, peace, etc.

-      I have to wash feet.

-      I have to do what Jesus would do.

-      I have to turn the other cheek.

-      I have to go the extra mile.

-      I have to love my neighbor/enemy.

-      I have to be “faithful unto death.”

-      I have to love God with all my heart, soul, and strength.

·        Having completed a good portion of the list, I feel confident that God will give me my place in heaven. By the grace of God and my good track record, I don’t have to go to hell.

 

A Child of the New Birth Says…

-      I want to worship God with fellow saints.

-      I want to help others in my Father’s name.

-      God help me to be pure in heart.

-      I want to change my life.

-      Lord, take control of my life.

-      I want to be generous, kind, merciful.

-      I want to be washed from my sins in His blood.

-      I want to produce evidence that God’s Spirit is in me.

-      I want to be of humble service in any area needed.

-      I want to do what Jesus would do.

-      Lord, give me strength to do whatever is necessary to promote your kingdom in this world.

-      I want to love my neighbor/enemy.

-      I want to be “faithful unto death.”

-      I want to love God with all my heart, soul, and strength.

·        God has been so gracious to me to show me love and I want to draw closer to Him and honor and worship Him. I just want to be to others what He has been to me so they can see how great my God is.

Praise Him for the roses. Thank Him for the thorns.

“And lest I should be exalted above measure through the abundance of the revelations, there was given to me a thorn in the flesh, the messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I should be exalted above measure. For this thing I besought the Lord thrice that it might depart from me. And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ's sake:for when I am weak, then am I strong.”

2 Corinthians 12: 7-10

                  Until recently I was guilty of skimming through these verses. I focused more on what Paul’s mysterious thorn in the flesh might be than the lessons to be learned from it. Once they were pointed out to me, this became one of my favorite passages.

                  We often question why we suffer. We don’t understand. Paul admitted several things about his “thorn in the flesh.” He admitted that it kept him humble. He acknowledged that Satan often used it against him. He admitted that he had asked God multiple times to take it away, but he accepted that God was using it to help him. He awed in God’s ability to something good come from a flawed man.

                  There is an old saying, “That which does not kill you makes you stronger.” God is often using our fleshly thorns to make us stronger.

Praise Him for the roses. Thank Him for the thorns.

Ireland is one of my personal favorites. It just looks so romantic, doesn’t it?

She chose to stay home and earn her degree (a choice that is becoming more and more popular. In this post, she lists a few reasons why pursing a degree online was the right path for her.

Hello, 2014.

                  After a (rather long) break, we are launching back into 2014 rejuvenated and reenergized! We have some exciting things planned for this year which we hope will encourage you in your daily Christian walk! First up, let’s set some goals together. Yes, I realize we’re well into the month of January and the usual goal setting time is the New Year, but it’s never too late to resolve to do better. 

For who hath despised the day of small things? for they shall rejoice, and shall see the plummet in the hand of Zerubbabel with those seven; they are the eyes of the Lord, which run to and fro through the whole earth.

                  Often after being baptized into Christ, we are on fire. We are so pumped and we want to tell the world about Jesus, but after a while that feeling fades. We have great plans, but for whatever reason our resolutions begin to overwhelm us. We become lukewarm and our desire to share the gospel takes a backseat. If you aren’t a New Testament Christian yet, you may be wondering how to prevent this from happening. If you are a Christian and fall into this category, you probably want to know how to get out of this rut.

                  Start by setting small goals. Achieve those and you will recognize them immediately, allowing yourself to see progress. Small steps allow us to believe in ourselves. Write down Philippians 4:13 and post it in a prominent place. Read it everyday. Focus on taking one step at a time. Make a goal of getting to Bible class on time (or even early) on a weekly basis and soon you will see those weeks turn into a month. Rather than taking on the rather daunting task of reading through the Bible in a year, make it a goal to read one book per month and take notes while doing so.

New Things/Old Things for 2014

October?!?! Has it really been that long since we posted???? Please forgive us. Life has just been very busy lately, but we have some very exciting things planned for the New Year such as, Bible trivia, fashion features, book reviews, easy evangelism ideas, homemaking 101 and more! (If you've enjoyed the past posts, don't worry-we will continue to feature similar articles & devotionals.) God has blessed us so much this year and we look forward to the great things he can use us for in 2014! We wish you a safe and happy New Year and as always, we welcome your comments, constructive critiques and suggestions!
